How to Use ChatGPT for Marketing (And Why You Shouldn’t Wait to Start)

Last Friday, I was sitting at my parents’ dinner table when the conversation took a surprising turn: email marketing and artificial intelligence.

Why? Because my parents recently joined my email list.

My dad complimented a story I’d shared about my son. He said:

“You wove the story and the lesson together really well. It was really nice.”

I smiled and said thanks.

Then I told him something he didn’t expect…

Yes, I Used ChatGPT to Help Write That Email

The truth? I was nervous to send that particular email. I didn’t want anyone to misinterpret what I was sharing about my son, his school, or our parenting approach. It was emotionally charged—and I wanted to make sure the message came through clearly.

So I did what I often do when writing sensitive or story-driven emails:

  • I drafted the message myself

  • Then I asked ChatGPT to help me refine it

  • I told it to remove unnecessary emotional commentary and clarify the core lesson

That extra layer of editing gave me the confidence to hit send.

My Dad’s Reaction Says Everything

After I explained what I’d done, he looked at me and said:

“You need to teach me how to use that ChatGPT. I tried it once—I just typed ‘Reference Letter’ and it spit one out.”

We both laughed. But the moment stuck with me.

Because outside the online business world, most people still don’t know how powerful tools like ChatGPT can be. And if you're not already experimenting with AI, you're likely missing out on the edge it can give your marketing.

ChatGPT Isn’t Replacing Great Marketing—It’s Enhancing It

Recently, I saw a well-known email marketer admit they’ve “barely used ChatGPT.”

But here’s the thing: That’s not the flex they think it is.

ChatGPT isn’t here to replace your creativity, strategy, or storytelling voice. It’s here to help you:

  • Save time

  • Stay consistent with content

  • Eliminate the “what should I write?” paralysis

  • Focus on growth instead of just maintenance

Used well, ChatGPT becomes the marketing assistant you didn’t know you needed.

Not Sure Where to Start? Try This

If you’ve ever thought:

  • “I need more content, but I’m too busy to write it all.”

  • “AI seems cool, but I don’t know where to begin.”

  • “I signed up for ChatGPT, but I stare at the blank box with no idea what to type.”

You're not alone.

But here’s the good news: the best way to learn how to use ChatGPT for marketing is simple.

Start small. Pick one piece of content—a social caption, an email, a blog outline—and ask ChatGPT for help.

Give it context. Be specific with your instructions. Tweak the results to sound like you. And then do it again.

The more you practice, the better your results will get—and the faster you’ll write.

Final Thought: Start Before You Feel Ready

If my dad ever launches his dream course, 30 House Projects to Keep You Puttering Year-Round, I’ll help him write the sales page—with ChatGPT.

But for you?

If you're a business owner, creator, or marketer who wants to grow without burning out…

Don’t wait for the “perfect time” to try AI. Just open the app. Try a prompt. See what happens.

Because the sooner you start learning how to use AI tools like ChatGPT for marketing, the easier everything else gets.
